On Thursday, 12th June 2025, the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers celebrated a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Major General Janaka Perera Memorial Auditorium at the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering in Embilipitiya. This prestigious event was held under the distinguished leadership of Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.
The ceremony commenced with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, marking the formal opening of the new auditorium. A highlight of the event was the unveiling of a statue of the late Major General Janaka Perera RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc, a legendary figure in Sri Lanka’s military history, renowned for his strategic acumen, fearless leadership, and unwavering dedication to the nation. The proceedings were further sanctified by the chanting of Seth Pirith by the Maha Sangha, invoking blessings upon the occasion, the institution, and the legacy of the late Major General.
In his address to the gathering, Major General Lanka Amarapala paid heartfelt tribute to Major General Janaka Perera, recounting his exemplary service and leadership. He described the late General as one of Sri Lanka’s most outstanding war veterans, an officer who led from the front and exemplified professional excellence throughout his career.
This Major General Janaka Perera Memorial Auditorium is envisioned as a centre for academic excellence, leadership development, and ceremonial functions within SLSME. Outfitted with modern facilities, it will host lectures, training programs, workshops, and institutional events, serving not just as an architectural addition but as a lasting tribute to the values and legacy of a true military icon.
By dedicating this state-of-the-art facility in honour of Major General Janaka Perera, the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers reaffirms its enduring commitment to preserving the memory of those whose service and sacrifice have shaped the history of the nation.
