In a spectacular celebration of sporting brilliance, the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers hosted its prestigious Colours Night – 2025 on Wednesday, 28th May 2025, at the Grand Maitland, Colombo. The glittering ceremony was honoured by the presence of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, who attended as the Chief Guest. The event was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. The evening unfolded with grace and grandeur, adding distinction and pride to this momentous occasion.
The event was a grand tribute to the exceptional achievements of SLE sportsmen, honouring their unwavering commitment and excellence across a diverse array of sports. In a proud moment for the Regiment, 142 outstanding Sapper sportsmen, representing 22 sport events were awarded Laurels and Colours, in recognition of their stellar performances at International, National, Defence Services, and Inter-Regiment competitions held during 2024 and 2025. These athletes, who brought honour to the Corps, the Sri Lanka Army, and the Nation, were celebrated for their remarkable contributions and sporting spirit.
The ceremony commenced with a captivating video documentary that paid homage to the proud sporting legacy of the Regiment. This was followed by the formal introduction of the awardees, the poignant recitation of the Regimental song, and a two-minute silence held in honour of the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The crowning moments of the evening saw the Commander of the Army, accompanied by the Colonel Commandant and senior officers, presenting Colours in eight sessions to the high-achieving sportsmen. In a symbolic gesture of gratitude and encouragement, the Colonel Commandant presented a memento to the Commander of the Army, a gesture that was gratefully reciprocated. Additionally, the Commander of the Army presented a cash incentive to further support and enhance sports development within the Regiment.
The evening drew the conclusion with a vote of thanks delivered by Brigadier F Joseph USP, Centre Commandant of SLE, who expressed sincere appreciation to all who contributed to the resounding success of the event. As the final note of the National Anthem filled the venue, Colours Night 2025 concluded—etched in memory as a night of pride, recognition, and unmatched celebration of Sapper excellence.
