Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, undertook an official visit to 6 Field Engineer Regiment in Pallekele, on Monday, 26th May 2025.
Upon arrival, Major General Lanka Amarapala, was warmly welcomed by Major BLGTP Subasinghe RSP USP psc SLE, the Commanding Officer of 6 Field Engineer Regiment and a ceremonial guard turnout was presented to the Colonel Commandant.
The visit commenced with the tribute for the fallen war heroes in front of the War Heroes Monument by Major General Lanka Amarapala showing the respect and gratitude towards the fallen war heroes of the Regiment. Major General Lanka Amarapala planted a sapling to mark the official visit followed by the group photograph. A comprehensive briefing was delivered by the Commanding Officer on the unit’s operational role, tasks and key responsibilities within its Area of Responsibility. Afterwards the prosperous occasion of Laying the Foundation for the Lecture Hall took place.
Major General Lanka Amarapala subsequently addressed all ranks, underscoring that discipline remains the fundamental pillar of military excellence. He reaffirmed that the troops represent the true embodiment of the Army’s strength and honour. Encouraging unwavering resilience, he called upon them to confront challenges with steadfast determination, emphasizing that adversity often serves as a catalyst for future achievements. A key subject of discussion was national security, with particular attention given to issues concerning illegal activities engage by military personals. He further highlighted the Army’s pivotal role in fostering broader community involvement in the nation’s development endeavours.
Following his address, Major General Lanka Amarapala engaged in a cordial interaction with all ranks during a formal tea hosted by the unit at the Corporal’s Club, fostering unity and dialogue in a spirit of fellowship. Subsequently, the esteemed inauguration of the newly renovated Officers’ Mess by Major General Lanka Amarapala, in collaboration with the Commanding Officer of the 6 Field Engineer Regiment and the most junior officer present was taken place in line with programme. The event was followed by an interaction with the officers and a formal luncheon.
Concluding the visit, the Colonel Commandant signed the Visitors’ Book and posed for a group photograph with the officers, marking the occasion memorable for the regiment. This official visit was graced by Brigadier F Joseph USP, Centre Commandant SLE, and Brigadier KASJ Kodithuwakku USP ptsc, Commander of the Plant Brigade.
