SAPPERS WON 4 MEDALS AT THE 5TH SOUTH ASIAN KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The fifth South Asian Karate Championship, organized by Bangladesh Karate Federation and South Asian Karate Federation, got underway at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in Dhaka on 08 November 2019 and tournament ended after three days on 10 November 2019.

Around 245 players from five friendly foreign countries namely India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and host Bangladesh - participated in 60 events throughout the tournament representing different categories.

Three Sappers of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers those who represented the national Karate team were displayed high performances and won two Silver medals and two Bronze medals.

In the individual kumthe category below 67 kg, Lance Corporal Silva SHKL of 1 Fd SLE won the silver medal.

Continuation of winning mind in individual kata category, Lance Corporal Dayananda TGTC of 11 Fd SLE has received the silver medal due to his outstanding performance and won the Bronze medal in team kata category.

In the team kumthe category, Sapper Rajasingha RNNS of 4 (V) SLE won the bronze medal.

The team arrived in the Bandaranayake International Airport at 9.50 am on 13 November and the Sapper’s team was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Centre Commandant Lieutenant Colonel Chaminda Arachchige. Large gathering consist with Army personals, journalists, relations, friends and well-wishers were presented at the occasion.
