SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDING PROGRAME IN MEMORY OF LATE MAJOR GENERAL JANAKA PERERA ORGANIZED BY THE SEVA VANITHA BRANCH CORPS OF ENGINEERS

The Seva Vanitha Branch of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers organized a scholarship awarding programme for children of war veterans. The ceremony was held at the Lieutenant General NKB Angammana Memorial Hall on 06 July 2018.

This event was organized to coincide with the 10th death anniversary of Late Major General K J C Perera RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc former Colonel Commandant of Corps of Engineers and Mrs Vajira Perera former president of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Corps of Engineers.

The scholarships were sponsored by Ms Chamila Perera, Ms Shenara Perera and Mr Upul Janaka Perera children of the Late Major General Janaka Perera who are residing overseas. Mr Rohan Preethiviraj Perera the brother of the late Major General Janaka Perera and his wife Mrs Sherin Perera on behalf of the family coordinated this programme and graced the event as guest of honour.

The event commenced with the arrival of the distinguished guest who were received by Mrs Ajantha Hettiarachchi president Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Engineers and accompanied by the cultural dancing team to the Lieutenant General Angammana Memorial Hall. After the lighting of the Traditional Oil Lamp a one minute silence was observed for all the fallen war heroes. A floral tribute to late Major General Janaka Perera and Mrs Vajira Perera was accorded by the distinguished guests.

The Centre Commandant addressed the audience welcoming them on behalf of the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineers and President Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Engineers. After which the scholarships were awarded to recipients followed by the speech of Mr Rhohan Perera. Major General H R K P Peiris USP presented a memento in appreciation to the generosity of the Late Major General Janaka Perera’s Family.

This event was attended by members of the Seva Vanitha Branch, Senior Officers, Officers and soldiers of the RFT squadron.
