SLE SVB Ladies’ Initiative Gets Drinking Water for 235 Innocent families

‘Abhayapura’ village in Avissawella area, comprised of 235 low-income earning families of 900 villagers was the recipient of a long-awaited drinking water facility, following an initiative taken by the Sri Lanka Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch (SLE-SVB) of the Army as those villagers had no access to this vital need.

Mrs Shammi Jayawardena, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch (SLE-SVB), initiated action for the matter after the need was brought to the notice of the SLE-SVB.

The project was jointly supported and organized by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), Religious Youth Services (RYS), International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP) Sri Lanka with patronage given by the Sri Lanka Youth, Ministry of Youth and Sports under the RYS /UPF island friendship project with the coordination of the SLE-SVB.

The project was sponsored by RYS - Global and Global Youth Service Field Foundation (GYSF) and the skilled support was given by 1 Sri Lanka Engineer Corps (1 SLE) troops under the close supervision of Lieutenant Colonel U.G.S Wijenayake, Commanding Officer, 1 SLE.

The Chairperson of SLE-SVB graced as the chief guest in the simple inauguration ceremony of installation of the water tank and laying of the pipeline system on Friday (Dec 16), together with several members of the SLE-SVB, participants from the RYS Global, beneficiaries and engineer troops.
