SLACAL - SVB Supports Self Employment of Women in Army Families

Representatives from various esteemed institutions including Mrs Sepalika Jayawardena and Mrs Kethaki Palpola from Export Development Board, Mrs Ilmi Hewajuliege from Institute of Industrial Technology, Mr Thanuja Chandrasekara from National Design Centre, Mr Rex Kahadawala, Mr Wesly John and Mr W.A.S.K Wijesinghe from Focus Business School, Officials of Ministry of Industrial Affairs, Officials of Sri Lanka Quality Control Institute and Mrs Thilaka Perera, Chairperson of Women's Association, Sri Lanka at the invitation of the President, Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) and the Chairperson, Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock Seva Vanitha Branch (SLACAL - SVB) conducted a symposium, aimed at empowering and enhancing marketing and exporting opportunities of the handicrafts, being produced by women in Army families.

Mrs Shanthi Abeysekara, Chairperson of SLACAL - SVB and Deputy Public Relations Officer of the ASVU, presided over the conference held at the SLACAL Regimental Centre on Saturday (9 Sept).

During the discussions, women participants from all battalions were educated on potential export opportunities for their hand made and home-produced handicrafts which could generate an additional income.
