Coincident with Children’s Day, ASVU with VIR - SVB Makes Orphans & Children Happy

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) in collaboration with the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch (VIR-SVB) launched a mega project on Sunday (1 Oct), coincident with the World’s Children’s Day at Boyagane VIR Regimental HQ.

The project invited 100 children, resident in different children’s homes in the Kurunegala region.

Mrs Janaki Liyange, President ASVU graced the Children’s Day programme as the Chief Guest and was warmly welcomed by Mrs Himali Pussella, Chairperson, VIR-SVB and Senior Officers.

Subsequently, she was invited to inaugurate the newly-erected Archers’ Publications complex in the compound. Lighting of the traditional oil lamp, recital of the national anthem and observance of a two-minute silence in memory of fallen War Heroes set the stage ready for the day’s agenda at ‘The Salute’ auditorium.

During the programme, those children added colour by showcasing their artistic talents before the audience highlighting the importance of their day.

In addition, a total of 100 children from Maliyadeva Boys’ orphanage, Kurunegala, Maliyadeva Girls’ orphanage, Kurunegala, Kiri Mudiyanse Boys’ orphanage, Polgahawela, Sputnik Girls’ orphanage, Kurunegala and Aloka Boys’ orphanage, Melsiripura who took part in the day’s programme, received a gift pack of essentials from the day’s Chief Guest. Chairperson, VIR-SVB, Senior ASVU members and Senior Officers were also associated with the occasion.

At the same time, the President of ASVU took time off to attend another event arranged by the VIR-SVB where 20 children of civil employees were awarded gift packs, each worth Rs. 15,000/=. The gift pack included a DSI gift voucher plus school accessories.

Towards the end of the programme, all the children were entertained to a sumptuous lunch treat before the day’s ceremony ended.

Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, Colonel of the Regiment of VIR and Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc, Adjutant General of the Army, Senior Officers, Officers, members of ASVU and VIR-SVB also took part in the day’s distribution ceremony.
