SLSC - SVB Supports Education of Teenagers of SLSC Families

The Sri Lanka Signal Corps - Seva Vanitha Branch (SLSC - SVB) on account of the 80th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) and World Children’s Day launched a mega welfare project for the benefit of students of SLSC families on Thursday (26 October).

The project, estimated at Rs 9 million was sponsored by PrintXcel Pvt Ltd, Atlas Axillia Company Pvt Ltd, well-wishers and the SLSC - SVB.

Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Mrs. Nalini Ratnayake, Chairperson, SLSC - SVB and joined the distribution of those incentives to 112 students.

Students learning from Grade 1 to Grade 12 under the project received school accessories and equipment as well as scholarships in order to stimulate their future studies. Of them, the daughter of an 3 SLSC War Hero who made the supreme sacrifice in 1999 while he was serving Mannar area was awarded a monthly scholarship of Rs. 10,000/= until completion of her university studies as a 3rd year medical student at University of Peradeniya. Grade 5 achievers in the scholarship examination in addition received school accessories and writing books.

One of the main highlights in the awarding ceremony was the launch of the web and mobile application ‘Thaksalawa’ with the objective of providing a mobile platform for education of those children in the sphere of English language. The day’s Chief Guest Mrs. Janaki Liyanage made the symbolic signing and launched the mobile application.

Towards the end of the programme, the contributors to the project as well as those who produced the ‘Thaksalawa’ mobile platform were appreciated and presented with certificates of recognition.

The project under different stages will give away those incentives to more than 2,700 school students of SLSC families and civil employees. On the occasion, a representative group of 112 students symbolically received those grants and incentives.

The Chief Signal Officer of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of SLSC, Major General K.A.W.S Ratnayake ndu, senior members of ASVU, Mr Shanil Senerath, Group Chief Executive Officer of Printxcel Pvt Ltd, Senior Officers, Officers and a large crowd of beneficiaries and families were also present during the occasion.
