Marking the first working day of 2026, the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) conducted a programme to provide school accessories and wheelchairs on 01 January 2026 at the Army Headquarters for children and families of Army personnel and civilian staff of the Army.
Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, together with Swendrine Rodrigo, President of ASVU, participated in the occasion as the Chief Guest.
During the programme, an electric wheelchair valued at Rs. 345,000.00 was donated to the son of a retired senior officer due to illness. In addition, a senior non-commissioned officer currently receiving treatment at Abimansala I, Anuradhapura, was provided with a foldable adjustable electric wheelchair (Model LYEB 103A-S – 00062192) after becoming disabled during humanitarian operation in the country.
Furthermore, four soldiers were granted cash donations totalling Rs. 432,000.00 to meet milk powder requirements for infants, including assistance for families with twins, triplets and a soldier whose spouse passed away during childbirth.
Afterwards, school accessories were distributed among 522 children of Army personnel and civilian staff, while 50 students of Dharmasena Vidyalaya, Balangoda, also received school accessories to support their educational aspirations.
The programme concluded with a tea reception.
