The committee meeting for the first quarter of 2026 of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) was held on 20 January 2026 at the Army Headquarters. The President of the ASVU presided the meeting.
At the commencement of the meeting, Mrs Darshani Yahampath, Secretary of the ASVU, presented the minutes of the previous meeting, while the audit report was presented by Major A.S.N. Hathurusinghe, the Treasurer of the ASVU. Thereafter, the President of the ASVU introduced new welfare programmes for the benefit of Army personnel and outlined the effective and productive continuation of welfare projects carried out annually.
With the objective of raising funds for the welfare of Army personnel, a plan was implemented to provide an interest-free loan of Rs. 500,000.00, limited to a one-time provision, from the main account of the ASVU to Regimental Seva Vanitha Branches to initiate new projects. Accordingly, loans amounting to Rs. 1,500,000.00, at Rs. 500,000.00 each, were granted separately to the Sri Lanka Artillery, Special Forces and Sri Lanka National Guard. The cheques were handed over to the respective Chairpersons of the Regimental Seva Vanitha Branches by the President of the ASVU.
Furthermore, the final instalment of the housing project, amounting to Rs. 500,000.00, was granted to Private H.S. Ratnayake of the Sri Lanka National Guard, who had previously received housing financial assistance at earlier committee meetings.
Thereafter, in order to fulfil the requirement for clean drinking water for serving Army personnel and civilian employees suffering from kidney disease, as well as their immediate family members, 16 x KENT GRAND branded water purification units, each valued at Rs. 74,029.05, were distributed at a total cost of Rs. 1,184,464.80.
Finally, the meeting concluded with a tea reception and group photograph. Chairpersons of the Regimental Seva Vanitha Branches, senior officers, officers and other ranks participated in the event.
