Under the guidance of the Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Thai Pongal Festival 2026 was celebrated with joy and cultural pride at Viru Kekulu Preschools in Anuradhapura, Ipalogama, Galle, Diyatalawa, Pallekele, Minneriya, Panagoda and Manning Town in January 2026.
Teachers introduced the significance of Thai Pongal, helping children understand the values of agriculture, thankfulness and respect for nature.
Adding colour and excitement to the celebrations, children engaged in kolam drawing, ceremonial milk boiling, preparation of Pongal rice, cultural dances and worship of the sun. These activities promoted cultural awareness, togetherness and an appreciation of diversity among the young participants.
