A programme to provide essential household items to the family members of the late Corporal A.P Thalgaspitiya RSP and school supplies to his children was held on 24 January 2026 at the Regimental Centre – Commando Regiment.The late Non Commissioned Officer who belonged to the 1 Commando Regiment sustained injuries in a terrorist attack while engaged in operational duties and was subsequently rendered disabled. He was later medically discharged from service due to his condition. He passed away following a sudden illness after retirement.
This welfare initiative was organised under the coordination of Mrs. Champika Palliyaguruge, Committee Member of the Commando Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Mrs. Samindi Wickramaratne, Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Branch, at the Regimental Headquarters.
Major General K H M S Wickramaratne RSP, Master General Ordnance and Colonel of the Regiment - Commando Regiment, along with other Senior Officers and Other Ranks attended the event.
During the event, special attention was also given to discuss the completion of the partially constructed house of the late Corporal and providing support to his wife to help her commence a self-employment venture.
