ASVU Extends Support to War Heroes through Welfare Camps

The Directorate of Veterans’ Affairs & Rehabilitation, in collaboration with the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), conducted the 10th phase of its islandwide welfare camp series for disabled retired personnel under the guidance of the Commander of the Army at the Headquarters of the 12 Infantry Division, Hambantota, on 07 August 2026. The initiative focused on addressing the healthcare needs of Army veterans residing in the Hambantota District.

Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commander of the Army, graced the event as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs. Vindya Premaratne, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU).

The programme was conducted for war heroes who sustained disabilities during the war and use artificial limbs and surgical appliances, war heroes retired on medical grounds, next of kin of fallen war heroes and next of kin of serving war heroes.

During the programme, an eye clinic was conducted for war heroes who sustained injuries while serving in the Army and their family members. Wheelchairs and crutches were also distributed among the beneficiaries.

Approximately 2,132 beneficiaries and participants attended the programme, while lunch was provided to all attendees by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit.

Members of ASVU, senior officers, officers and other ranks were also present on the occasion.
