25th edition of the Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya was flagged off on 3 March 2024 at Gallface Green, Colombo by the Commander of the Air Force. The cycling race in 2024 is conducted in line with the 73rd anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The Men's race that commenced this morning, in which over one hundred and four males, including both locals and foreigners, specifically a four-manned team representing the Indian Air Force participated and completed its first lap at Kandy, 11 Infantry Division area, covering a distance of 104.3 km. The race will be concluded on 07 March 2024 in Jaffna after the completion of five laps in five days along with the Women’s race that will commence at Mankulam on 07 March 2024.
Sri Lanka Air Force Cyclist, Nadeesha Eshan won the 1st leg of the race while Sandaruwan Pinto from Sri Lanka Army and Rovindu Namuditha Soyza of Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council finished as second and third places respectively.
