Troops based in Kandy District, under Security Force (Central), made tireless efforts to control wildfires in both Bowalawatta area in Kandy and Hunnasgiriya area in Ududumbara on 31 July 2013.
On the guidance of Commander Security Force (Central), Major General WWHRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, troops under command to 11 Infantry Division rushed to the locations and initiated wildfire controlling measures. Accordingly, firefighters belong to 5th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry doused the wildfires in Hunnasgiriya area whilst the firefighters of 2nd Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment battled wildfires at Bowalawatta area during the daylight. Reportedly, 60 acres of land were destroyed by the wildfires which did not harm civilian lives or property.
