ASSUMPTION OF DUTIES BY THE NEWLY-APPOINTED GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING - 12 INFANTRY DIVISION

The 21st General Officer Commanding of the 12 Infantry Division, Major General MPKL Amarasinghe WWV RWP RSP ndc of the Special Forces Regiment, assumed duties on 04 December 2025 during a ceremony held at the 12 Infantry Division Headquarters in Hambantota.

Upon his arrival at the Headquarters premises, the senior officer was accorded a Guard Turnout presented by the troops of the 18 Gemunu Watch.

The formal assumption of duties took place amidst religious blessings, where the Chief Incumbent of the Wedasitikanda Temple, Venerable Hille Gnanananda Thero, together with members of the Maha Sangha, chanted Seth Pirith while the newly-appointed GOC placed his signature on the official document signifying his acceptance of office

To mark this significant milestone, Major General Kamal Amarasinghe posed for a group photograph with division staff and proceeded to plant a sapling within the Division Headquarters premises as a symbol of growth and continuity.

Addressing all ranks soon after, the General Officer Commanding outlined his vision for the future of the Division, emphasizing professional values, high discipline, physical fitness, comradeship and a drug-free military environment. He further highlighted the importance of the Division’s contribution to the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative introduced by the Government

The programme concluded with the GOC participating in the All-Ranks Tea, where he engaged informally with Officers, Other Ranks, and civil staff of the division.
