The prevailing unceasing showers in Haputale area, has caused unfavorable conditions to the day to day livelihood of civilians. The adverse weather condition that ruled the area during evening hours on 05 November 2023, caused a slither earth slip and blocked the traffic movements of the Haputale – Welimada main road, at Walgahawela Junction.
On a short notice of the disaster, the army disaster response team of Security Force Headquarters (Central) arrived at the scene in the morning hours on 06 November 2023, and assisted civil authorities to restore the vehicular movements of the main road. The troops made a great contribution to remove rocks and earth mounds and cleared the pathway for the general public.
