The prevailing dry weather condition in the responsible area of Security Forces (Central) is the reason behind many disasters in forest areas. Specially, the wild fire is occurred and it rapidly spreads destroying acres of forests. There, the troops under command to SF (Cen) are taking a great effort to control such situations.
On 09 August 2018 a sudden fire occurred in Suduwathura Kanda in Okkampitiya Divisional Secretariat in the Monaragala District. Since this area is located in the responsible area of 121 Brigade of Security Forces (Central), the troops of 18 Battalion of the Gemunu Watch (GW) were tasked to control the fire on the direction of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General G R H Dias VSV USP ndc psc IG.
Accordingly, one officer and twenty five soldiers reached the place immediately and doused the wild fire completely under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of 18 GW.
