On the request of Disaster Management Centre – Hambantota District, troops deployed under 12 Infantry Division swiftly responded to mend a water leak in the bund of Keliyapura tank at Kapuwatta on 04 October 2023.
On 05 October 2023, troops lent their assistance to remove an uprooted tree across the Ridigama canal at Modarapiliwala, and cleared the water passage. Army troops were guided to disaster relief tasks on the supervision of Major General CS Munasinghe WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc IG, General Officer Commanding 12 Infantry Division, and upon the directives of Major General WWHRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc - Commander Security Force (Central)
