Troops under Security Force Central, based in Kandy immediately responded to cease a landslide risk at the Walahena Junior School in Alawathugoda on 19 October 2023.
Two buildings of the school was threatened by a slope failure which could erupted by a water drainage disturbance adjacent to the buildings. The disaster response team belongs to 2nd Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment made necessary initiatives to reduct the slope failure using sandbags, and cleared the blocked water drainage with the assistance of the members Disater Management Centre - Kandy, residents and parents of the school children. The operation was guided by 11 Infantry Division on the request made by the Disional Secretariat - Akurana.
