MILITARY PERSONNEL CONTRIBUTED FOR ECO FRIENDLY PROGRAMMES

In parallel with the World Environment Day and the National Tree Planting Week a series of programmes were launched all over the island by the military personnel. Accordingly, troops of Security Forces Headquarters (Central) also assisted for such, nature friendly programmes with the guidance and the supervision of the Commander Security Forces (Central) Major General G R H Dias VSV USP ndc psc IG.

Consequently, 1 officer and 25 soldiers of Security Forces Headquarters (Central) contributed to a social work on 05 June 2018 from 0900 hours to 1030 hours in conjunction with the Department of Forest Conservation in the responsible area of Security Forces (Central), Haldummulla Pradeshiya Sabha and Haldummulla Divisional Secretariat. The intention of this programme was to make aware the general public in Haldummulla area on proper garbage disposal and the measures which can be applied to protect the nature.

School children of the area also joined hands by removing the non decaying garbage which had been dumped either sides of the road. In addition, they acted a street drama and joined for an environment walk in order to make aware the public.

Furthermore, these social work which are of paramount importance in developing the environment make stronger the cooperation among general public. At the same time such community tasks enhance the civil – military cooperation to launch more environmental conservation projects.
