A programme was launched in the Kandy district with the instructions of the Commander of the Army in order to remove the debris of damaged buildings during the unrest situation occurred due to a communal tension in certain areas of the district. In accordance with the instructions of the Commander of the Army, on 21 March 2018 a programme was commenced with the supervision of Major General A W M A W N Ranawana RWP RSP ndc psc, the General Officer Commanding of 11 Division.
Accordingly, 5 officers and 150 soldiers from 5(V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (5 SLLI), 2(V)Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (2 (v) SLSR), 1 and 2 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (1 SLRC and 2 SLRC ) cleaned Welekade area in Mullegama located in Ambathenna – Pujapitiya road in the Kandy district by removing debris. Further, Mullegama Piyarathana Thero, the Chief Incumbent of Priyadarshanarama Viharaya in Mullegama and M W N M Madahapola, the Divisional Secretary of Pujapitiya also participated in this programme along with 75 state workers and civilians of the area.
