SRI LANKA ARMY CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS THE RESCUE AND REHABILITATION OF DISASTER-AFFECTED POPULATIONS

the severe weather conditions that prevailed over the past several days, troops of the 11 Infantry Division, operating under the Security Forces Headquarters (Central) and deployed in the Area of Responsibility of the 641 Infantry Brigade, extended vital assistance in restoring public utilities in the Rattota area in the Matale District. On 03 December 2025, a team of 01 × 10 personnel from the 1 SLRC was engaged in reinstating the disrupted power supply in the affected locality.

Additionally, 01 × 16 troops of the 4 SLLI assisted in repairing the drinking water pipeline system situated across the Niploya Oya on the Rattota–Riverston route. Further, 01 × 08 personnel from the 5 SLLI contributed to the restoration of road access and the re-establishment of water distribution in the Pallepola area. Moreover, 01 × 08 troops from the 1 SLRC facilitated the transportation and delivery of essential fuel supplies to the Karagastenne communication tower, ensuring uninterrupted operational capability.

Troops under the 111 Infantry Brigade carried out evacuation operations for civilians affected by a landslide in the Loolkandura area of the Kandy District. A total of 27 displaced persons were safely transported to safety centers by troops of the 4 MIR on 03 December 2025. In the Danture–Oomandal Watta area, 00 × 10 personnel undertook road stabilization work by filling the collapsed section of the route with sandbags. On the same day, 00 × 10 troops from the 2 (V) SLSR were deployed to clear debris and restore road access obstructed by landslides in the Hataraliyadda–Muruthalawa area.

Troops of the 112 Infantry Brigade continued their support towards the repair of the water distribution pipeline network at the Welimada–Ambagasdowa Water Treatment and Distribution Centre. On 03 December 2025, a contingent of 00 × 10 personnel from the 23 VIR was deployed for these essential restoration tasks.
