TROOPS OF 12 INFANTRY DIVISION RESCUE A BABY ELEPHANT FROM PIT IN HAMBANTOTA

Troops of the 12 Infantry Division, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy, successfully rescued a baby elephant that had fallen and become trapped in a concrete pit near the International Conference Hall in Magampura, Hambantota, on 27 March 2024.

The rescue operation was conducted under the guidance of Major General C.S Munasinghe WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc IG, the General Officer Commanding, 12 Infantry Division. The wildlife office in the area provided the necessary treatments since the baby elephant sustained minor injuries. Due to the absence of the parent elephant in the vicinity, the baby elephant was safely transported to the Elephant Transit Home at Udawalawa by a wildlife agent for further care and rehabilitation.
