A number of 8 persons (01x Female,07x Male) from Thalathuoya, Ratemulla were stranded in the Hanthana mountain range during a hiking trip in the evening hours of 28 June 2025. The hikers lost their way back due to fog and rain prevailing in the mountain range.
With the instructions and guidance of Security Forces Headquarters (Central), 11 Infantry Division and 111 Infantry Brigade, 02 x 08 troops from 2 (V) Battalion SLSR made their way towards the mountain range to locate the stragglers. Sri Lanka Army troops were able to rescue the stranded persons at around 0245 hour on 29 June 2025 after more than six hours of search operation amidst thick fog and dripping rain.
