19th GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING OF 12 INFANTRY DIVISION ASSUMES DUTIES

Major General HTW Vidyananda RWP RSP USP from Gajaba Regiment assumed office as the new General Officer Commanding of 12 Infantry Division on 12 June 2025 amidst religious blessings and military formalities at the 12 Infantry Division Headquarters in Hambantota.

Upon arrival, the senior officer was accorded a Guard Turnout followed by a Guard of Honour by the troops of 12 Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment. Afterwards, the newly-appointed GOC signed an official document, signifying the acceptance of his new office amidst chanting of ‘Pirith’ by the ‘Maha Sanga’. To mark the occasion the Commander posed for a group photograph and planted a sapling in the 12 Infantry Division Headquarters premises.

Thereafter, newly appointed GOC addressed the troops, highlighting his vision for the division’s future, importance of avoiding illegal drugs, wisely dealing with social media, and maintaining a high level of discipline among officers and other ranks. Later, General Officer Commanding interacted with the officers and other ranks during the all ranks tea. Officers, Other Ranks and civil workers of 12 Infantry Division took part in the event.
