On account of the forthcoming 69th Army Anniversary and the Army Day (Oct 10), a flag march organized by 22 Division got underway in Trincomalee on Thursday (04). In the vision of Commander of the Army and with the guidance of the Commander Security Force (East) Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, General Officer Commanding 22 Division Major General Aruna Jayasekara supervised the event which was carried out parallel to the series of proceedings organized by the Army island wide.
Hundreds of Army representatives of 22 Division attired in glittering dresses marched with flags of 22 Division, 221 Brigade, 222 Brigade, 224 Brigade, 6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 5 (V) Sri Lanka Artillery and 2(V) Gajaba Regiment from Anuradhapura Junction to Ehamparam Sports Grounds Trincomalee via Uppuweli Junction with magnificent pomp and pageantry and the spirit of pride resonating in every street corner.
Further, a blood donation campaign, organized at Jayasumanaramaya Trincomalee to coincide with the 69th Army Anniversary Day got underway in the morning in coordination with the Trincomalee Base Hospital and Trincomalee Blood Bank. Meanwhile a tree planting campaign was conducted at Headquarters 22 Division and also distributed 5000 saplings among school children of 27 schools of the area. As well, the General Officer Commanding 22 Division Major General Aruna Jayasekara laid the foundaton stone for the construction of a new house for an under previledged family in Thambalagamuwa area.
