The Commander Security Forces - East (SF-E) – Major General MKUP Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, upon his assumption of office recently, made his maiden visit to the Headquarters 24 infantry Division, Ampara on 21 August 2023.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc and all officers warmly welcomed Major General Prasanna Gunaratne on his arrival. In accordance with military traditions, saluted him by Guard Turnout as a Drive Pass and welcomed him to the GOC’s office, and later he addressed troops under the 24 Infantry Division. Adding memories to the day, the Commander SF-E was invited to plant a sapling on the premises and posed for a group photograph. On his first day of the visit, Commander SF-E witnessed the progress of Deegawapiya Restoration Project and bricks project which are being constructed under the supervision of the 24 Infantry Division.
Prioritizing the religious rituals, Commander SF-E visited Muhudu Maha Viharaya, Buddangala Raja Maha Viharaya and Okanda Dewalaya to invoke blessings. Subsequently, Commander SF-E visited 241, 242, and 243 Infantry Brigades deployed at Akkaraipattu, Komari (Pothuvil) and Kallady (Batticaloa) respectively and had briefing and discussions with the staff officers including Battalion COs. In the evening Commander SF-E had an interaction session with the government stakeholders at the Officers’ Mess – 24 Infantry Division.
In a heartwarming display of compassion and community engagement, Commander SF-E participated in the donation programme at the Ampara elders’ home which is organized by 24 Infantry Division under the instruction of the GOC, Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc. During his visit he visited Norachcholai housing scheme, as well.
