COUNTRY'S LEADING CHEF TRAINS 22 INFANTRY DIVISION UNDER COMMANDS TROOPS ON ‘CULINARY ART’

The culinary consultant, Deshabandu Chef Dr. Pabilis Silva, Director culinary affairs and promotions at the Mt Lavinia Hotel who ventured to take the Sri Lankan Sinhala dishes to the international arena, conducted a two-day workshop on 09 and 10 January 2024 at the 22 infantry Division in Trincomalee. There were 104 participant including 3 cooks from China Bay Sri Lanka Air Force base. This workshop conducted under the guidance and coordination of Major General PAM Peiris RSP USP psc, the Commander, 22 Infantry Division. The programme was aimed at improving the culinary skills of all cooks serving in the 22 Infantry Division area and neighboring military establishments under the Security Force Headquarters - East.

The first day session was on mutton curry, pork devilled and fried chicken wings cooked in Sri Lankan cuisines which gave an in-depth understanding to the cooks, during the session, he clarified their doubts in relation to traditional foods, immunity, nutritious level, etc and practical sessions followed adding a novel learning experience to the participants in making different recipes, culinary methods, etc.

On the second day, the participants were given hands-on experience on varied cuisines such as Karaththa kariya with local spices. Interestingly in lastly prepared very delicious Jackfruit dessert, the Chef educated the participants that loving kindness and consciousness while cooking is the secret ingredients behind healthy and rich dishes.

By the end of the workshop, certificates to all the participants were awarded by the General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division together with Deshabandu Dr. Pabilis Silva. Finally, the Chef’s generous service was admired with a token of appreciation by the General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division.
