In order to uplift the living standard of the people of Vakarai, 233 Bde initiated a Cucumber Cultivation Project with the assistance of Hayleys Agriculture PLC. The project incorporated 49 low income families in Palachchenei area.
The project was a success on the interest and dedication of farmers. The income of the first harvest, an amount of Rs. 7,000,000.00 (Seven Million) was ceremonially entrusted to the beneficiaries on 24 Sep 18 with the participation of General Officer Commanding 23 Division, Brigadier Chula Abeynayake, Project Manager Hayleys PLC Mr. AK Baddegama and several distinguished members.
