MASS GATHERING AT AMPARA FOR FLAG-BLESSING

To coincide with the forthcoming 69th Army Anniversary and the Army Day, 24 Division organized a solemn ceremony at St. Ignatius Church Ampara on Wednesday (03) in order to bless the flags of 24 Division, 241 Brigade, 242 Brigade and the under command Battalions namely 23 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 6 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 8 Sri Lanka National Guard, 11 Sri Lanka National Guard and 16 Sri Lanka National Guard.

In the vision of Commander of the Army, with the guidance of the Commander Security Force (East) Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, General Officer Commanding 24 Division Major General Mahinda Mudalige supervised the event which was carried out in addition to the main agenda organized by the Army Headquarters since the Army is maintaining a considerable rapport among the civil population in Ampara District.

Major General Mahinda Mudalige, General Officer Commanding 24 Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along with Colonel W Chandrasiri, Commander 241 Brigade, all Commanding Officers, Staff Officers of 24 Division and large gathering of civilians in Ampara area.

Approximately 150 civilians mingled with Army personnel accompanied the religious observances to bless military flags and their sacrifice on behalf the Motherland. The Mass was conducted by the Reverend Father Pradeep Roshantha, St. Ignatius Church and Father Thiruchelwam Parish Church of Sorikalmunei.

During the mass, blessings were invoked graciously to the Commander of the Army, Formation Commanders, all Army personnel including who sacrificed their lives and got injured during the war. Moreover, he highly emphasized the role of 24 Division which has been undertaking for the betterment of the multi-ethnic coexistence and nation-building tasks in Ampara district. Similarly, multi-religious representatives too participated in the event.
