POLONNARUWA CIVILIANS, BENEFICIARY OF ARMY WELFARE PROJECTS

Under the directions and guidance of the Commander Security Forces-East, Major General MKUP Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, the troops of 23 Infantry Division headed by General Officer Commanding of the Division, Major General KVNP Premaratne RSP USP psc organized a Health Camp with the financial backing of the “ Interfaith Coalition for Peace” on 13 September 2023 at the Cultural Center at Walikanda.

The project was made possible with the financial support provided by the "Interfaith Coalition for Peace" to purchase essential medicines. The health camp provided vision testing, hearing and speech testing, BMI testing, blood pressure testing, random blood sugar testing, awareness programmes and a medical exhibition for the general public in the area.

Rev, Ebenazer Joseph, the Bishop of Methodist Church Sri Lanka and Former Secretary General of National Christian Council and Mr. Hemakumara Gunasekara Treasurer, “Interfaith Coalition for Peace”, Mrs. Thilani Withanage Head of Women’s Wing of “Interfaith Coalition for Peace”attended the interrogating ceremony.

More than 500 civilians including senior citizens, adults and children of all age groups received free medical consultations, medicines and under went free medical tests during the Health Camp. Medicines worth about Rs. 700000/= provide by “Interfaith Coalition for Peace” were administered for the needy patients free of charge during the clinic. Colonel K S P Pothupitiy USP psc IG, overlooking Commander, 233 Infantry Brigade coordinated the programmed 31 medical professionals from the Sri Lanka Army and government sector extend their assistance to make this Health Camp a success.
