RECOUNSTRUCTION OF THE COLOMBO–BATTICALOA RAILWAY LINE IN THE POLONNARUWA DISTRICT, WHICH WAS DAMAGED DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS IN THE MANAMPITIYA AREA, AND DISTRIBUTION OF DRY RATION BAGS TO THE AFFECTED PEOPLE

The Commander, Security Forces (East), Major General J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, together with a senior officer, conducted an inspection visit on 07.12.2025 regarding the repair work on the Colombo Batticaloa Railway Line in the Manampitiya area, which was severely damaged due to the adverse weather conditions affecting the Security Forces (East) area of responsibility. During the visit, discussions were held with the railway engineers regarding the Army’s assistance in rehabilitating the Manampitiya railway line.

The Commander, Security Forces (East), and senior officers then took part in distributing dry ration bags donated by the Sri Siddhartha Foundation of the Thalagala Mangalarama Maha Viharaya and the All Lanka Shasanarakshaka Board to the people affected by the disaster in Salpitigama village, located in the Dehiattakandiya area of the Ampara District.

Thereafter, Major General J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc and the senior officers visited the 3 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment headquarters area and commended the Commanding Officer and all troops for their service and efforts in the disaster relief operations carried out in the area.
