In the past military situation in the country, with the abandonment of lands by the civil people and government institutions, temporary that the army was using that grounds for operational and administrative purposes. After the war, the precedent decision of the state is to return the temporarily used lands for operational and administrative purposes by the army, handed over to the true land owners.
Accordingly, Sitthandi area 56 land parcels totally 8.6 acres belonging to the Batticaloa District, maintained for operational and control purposes by the 4 Battalion Gamunu Watch under the Security Forces - East were handed over to the Batticaloa District Secretary to handing over the land parcels to their respective owners.
The handing-over ceremony was held on 06 June 2023 at the Bravo Company - 4 Battalion Gamunu Watch in Sitthandi. To hand over the land to the government, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi, The Commander, Security Forces - East present from the army, and Batticaloa District, District Secretary, Mrs. Kalapathi Pathmaraja present from the Government sector. Brigadier Eranda Rathnayake, Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, Colonel Prabath Halpage, Lieutenant Colonel Saman Hettiarachchi, Lieutenant Colonel Dammika Weerasinghe and Major Isuru Senanayake participated event with the Commander, Security Forces - East.
