SF(EAST) TROOPS CONTINUE WITH RELIEF OPERATIONS

The Army personnel of Security Force (East) are continuously backing the ongoing relief operations in the areas affected by the heavy rainfall in the Eastern Province, on the directions of Commander, Security Force – (East) Major General Santhusitha Pananwala.

With the prevailing weather condition, around 1100 people are displaced and over 800 people were affected in the Eastern Province. The public transportation of Pulipanchical – Kiran road is disrupted due to inundation and a bridge in Periyawadduwan area is also damaged due to the torrential rains. The troops of 12 SLNG, commanded by Major Nishantha Dahanayaka are continuously providing transport facilities for the flood-affected people in Kiran, Pulipanchikal areas using Army boats.

Troops are engaged in providing relief assistance to the flood-affected civilians in Wammiwattuwan, Thattamanai and Kiran areas. Accordingly, the essential medical aids were provided to the displaced people including 30 people affected by viral fever in Wammiwattuwan area by the ADS - 233 Brigade. At the same time, the troops of 233 Brigade distributed mosquito nets, bed sheets, sleeping bags, mats and lunch packets among the displaced.
