SFHQ (EAST) WOMEN SOLDIERS MEET CHILDREN & ELDERS OF PARAKUM CHILDREN'S AND ELDERS' HOME AT POLONNARUWA

In line with the 15 anniversary of the Security Force Headquarters (East), the children and elders of Pulathisipura Parakum Children’s and Elders’ Home - Polonnaruwa had a memorable interaction with the women soldiers of 5 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps for the second time and a representative gathering of the Security Force Headquarters - East on Tuesday (23). Initially, a Mental Health Assessment was conducted for the children by the Psychologist of Army Base Hospital Minneriya, Lieutenant DDRT Karunasena in order to assess their mental health individually. It was followed by a counseling & psychotherapy session for the children with the guidance of the guardian of Parakum Children’s and Elders’ Home, Ven. Kaduruwela Dhammapala Thero. This gesture of goodwill was an initiative of the Commander Security Forces (East) Major General Santhusitha Pananwala.

The session was arranged under the leadership of Major Srimali Fernando, Commanding Officer of the 5 (V) SLAWC with the support of Lady Officers and other woman soldiers. During the programme, those young and elderly were served the dinner and enjoyed Calypso music entertainment, in which they also sang together and experienced the joy. The evening was brightened by some eye catching dancing performances by little children and the elders and it was heart-warming to see such talents. Further, the essential items including a television, a blender, heaters, clothes, first aid box and gift parcels were distributed among children & the elders.

Commander Security Forces (East) Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Brigadier Admin and Quartering SFHQ(E) Brigadier Micheal Wanniarachchi, Senior Officers, Officers & Other Ranks participated in this event.
