On request of Director of Irrigation, troops of 23 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment under 24 Division rushed to prevent spilling of “Lahugala Maha Wewa” whilst blocking its major water source of the branch of Hada Oya on Thursday (8). Meanwhile, the troops of 3 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, DMC – Amp and Navy have assisted nearly 62 effected families at the close perimeter of inundated road where commonly known as Kiddangi Coast-way which is located in between Kalmunei and Chawalakadei road by providing tractors and boats during last few days.
As the consequence of torrential rains and rising water level of the lagoons as well as other major water sources, few more minor roads were likely to be threatened. Few minor inundation were prevented by the troops with their swift engagement whilst placing of sand bags as the direction of Major General Mahinda Mudalige, General Officer Commanding 24 Division and the prompt action of Commanding Officers. Assistance will be continued further in co- operation with DMC – Amp and sister services.
