BIOGRAPHY

Maj Gen W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc

Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc assumed duties as the 14th General Officer Commanding of 24 Infantry Division. He was born on 20 April 1969 and was educated at St. Mary’s College Negombo and St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa. He enlisted to Regular Intake 32 of the Sri Lanka Army on 14 July 1989. Having completed his basic military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, he was commissioned on 19 January 1991 and posted to the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery.

Major General W Chandrasiri has held numerous important appointments in Command, Staff and Instructional during his military career. He has held the Command appointments as Troops Commander, Battery Captain, Battery Commander, Commanding Officer of 16th Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Commander 241 Brigade in Akkaraipaththu and as the Deputy Commandant of Ranaviru Sewana Rehabilitation Centre, Ragama. In staff appointments, he executed his duties as the General Staff Officer 2 (Training) Regiment Centre Sri Lanka Artillery, the General Staff Officers 2 (Training) Security Force Headquarters (East), the Staff Officer 2 (Additional) Military Secretary’s Branch Army Headquarters and General Staff Officer 1 (Operations/Training) Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna). During his illustrious career he served as an Officer Instructor at the Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa, Directing Staff at Defence Services Command and Staff College, Chief Instructor at Officer Study Centre Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa and Chief Instructor at Officer Career Development Centre in Buttala, He was the Brigadier Coordinating of National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid 19 Outbreak during the pandemic. Also he held the appointment of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence and Administration) of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka.

His interests include conducting leadership and motivation lectures/workshops, reading books and following world affairs. He is a devotee of Roman Catholicism. Major General W Chandrasiri is married to Mrs Janitha Fernando and blessed with two daughters and a son.
