In remembrance of the Sri Lankan citizens who lost their lives during the devastating Ditwa Cyclone, and in support of the objectives of the national “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, a tree planting programme was conducted in the Mullaitivu District on 25 May 2026 at the Sammalankulam Tank Reserve area in Oddusuddan.
The programme was held in parallel with the island-wide “HUSMEN HUSMAK - VIRU THURU SEVANA” tree planting campaign, which is being implemented under the visionary concept of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. The initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation, restore ecological balance, and create a greener and more sustainable environment for future generations.
The programme was conducted within the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni) area and organized by the 592 Infantry Brigade under the guidance of the Commander of the 591 Infantry Brigade.
The event was attended by officials from the Department of Forest Conservation, the Medical Officer of the Oddusuddan Divisional Hospital, other government officials, and civilians from the surrounding area, reflecting the strong cooperation between the military and the civil community in support of environmental preservation and national development.
The programme was jointly organized by the 5th (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the 14th (V) Battalion Gemunu Watch. Their collective efforts demonstrated a shared commitment towards environmental sustainability, community engagement, and the successful implementation of national initiatives aimed at building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Sri Lanka.
