Major General H A I Perera RWP RSP USP ndc officially assumed duties as the 25th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 59 Infantry Division on 15 May 2026 at the Division Headquarters amidst military formalities and religious observances conducted at an auspicious time.
Upon arrival at the Division Headquarters, the newly appointed General Officer Commanding was accorded a ceremonial Guard Turnout, followed by a Guard of Honour in recognition of his new appointment and senior command responsibilities.
As part of the proceedings, Major General H A I Perera participated in a symbolic tree sapling planting programme within the Division premises, signifying growth, unity, and his continued commitment towards the responsibilities entrusted to the Division.
Addressing the troops, the General Officer Commanding emphasized the importance of professionalism, discipline, unity, and dedication in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the Division. Thereafter, an All Ranks Tea was organized providing an opportunity for officers and other ranks to warmly welcome the new General Officer Commanding and interact with him in a cordial atmosphere.
The day’s events were conducted in accordance with military customs and traditions, reflecting the dignity and prestige associated with the assumption of duties by the 25th General Officer Commanding of the 59 Infantry Division.
