In parallel with the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, troops of the 5 (V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment, in collaboration with local civilians, conducted a comprehensive cleaning campaign in Vellankulam on 06 July 2025.
The effort was carried out under the guidance of Brigadier I P Jayasinghe RWP, Commander 541 Infantry Brigade, and was supervised by Lieutenant Colonel J P U Kumara USP, Commanding Officer 5 (V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment. The campaign focused on removing non-degradable waste along both sides of the main road from the A-32 60 Post to the Vellankulam roadblock, within the MN-01 Vellankulam Grama Niladhari Division.
This initiative aimed to reduce environmental pollution and promote sustainable, eco-friendly practices while fostering civil-military cooperation in maintaining community cleanliness.
