In line with the “Clean Sri Lanka” Programme, and with the noble intention of uplifting the health standards of schoolchildren, parents, and teachers in the Mannar area, a Dental Clinic and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Clinic were conducted on 04 March 2026 from 0900 hrs to 1330 hrs at MN/Madukkarai Government Tamil Mixed School, which falls under the Area of Responsibility of the 542 Infantry Brigade.
This initiative was carried out under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding of the 54 Infantry Division, Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc. The medical clinic was organized with the support of the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Office – Nanattan.
During the programme, 220 students of MN/Madukkarai Government Tamil Mixed School were provided with dental awareness sessions and dental examinations. In addition, 16 members of the teaching staff and 60 parents from the surrounding area participated in the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Clinic, where they were educated on the prevention and management of NCDs. Medical examinations including blood sugar testing and blood pressure checks were conducted, and individuals identified as being at risk were referred to hospital clinics for further treatment.
The Dental Clinic and the NCD Clinic were conducted by the medical staff of the Mannar Regional Health Services Office.
The event was graced by the presence of the General Officer Commanding of the 54 Infantry Division, Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc, as the Chief Guest. The Commander of the 542 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier A R W C Asurasinghe RWP RSP USP, along with other senior officers, also participated in the programme.
The Medical Officer of Health, Dr. S. Jude Ravi Pachchel, together with medical officers and healthcare staff, actively contributed to the success of this valuable initiative.
The Commanding Officer of the 8th Battalion, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major S H R J de Silva RSP psc, along with other officers and troops, made all necessary organizational arrangements for the programme. Coordination activities were conducted by the Civil Affairs Officer of the 542 Infantry Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel W A N D Jayasundara.
