56 Infantry Division Conducts All-Night Pirith Chanting Ceremony In Honour Of Fallen And Wounded War Heroes

The 56 Infantry Division of the Sri Lanka Army conducted a solemn all-night Pirith chanting ceremony on 23 June 2025 at its Headquarters in Kokeliya. The event was organized with the noble intention of paying tribute to the valiant Army personnel who made the supreme sacrifice during the thirty-year-long conflict, while also invoking blessings for the speedy recovery of those who were wounded in the line of duty, and for the well-being of all currently serving war heroes.

The 56 Infantry Division was established on 17 October 1997 at Kanagarayankulam during Operation Jayasikuru. Up to now, more than sixteen years have passed since the defeat of the LTTE’s separatist terrorism, which plagued the country for nearly three decades. As a mark of respect and remembrance, the 56 Infantry Division, under the guidance and leadership of the General Officer Commanding, Major General K N D Karunapala RSP ndu, organized this meritorious religious observance. The event aimed to honour the memory of those who laid down their lives and extend blessings upon the injured and those still in active service, safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.

This solemn occasion stands as a testament to the Sri Lanka Army’s enduring commitment to honouring its war heroes and safeguarding the memory of their sacrifices while continuing to support those who serve the motherland with unwavering courage and dedication.

The ceremony was attended by the Brigade Commanders of the 561, 562, and 563 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officers of respective battalions, Senior/junior Non-Commissioned Officers, other ranks, and civilian staff of all Battalions, Brigades and Division. The united efforts of all participants ensured the dignified and successful conduct of this sacred event, which reflected the deep sense of unity, discipline, and unwavering respect upheld by the Division towards its fallen and wounded comrades.
