61 DIVISION LAUNCHESA DONATION OF ARTIFICIAL LIMBS, STATIONARY AND BOOKS

A group of differently able people having low income in 61 Division area were provided with artificial limbs during a donation programme ceremoniously held on 3 October 2018 at the Headquarters premises of 613 Brigade in Thachchanamaradhamadu.

With the deepest sense and compassion towards those helpless villagers, the General Officer Commanding of 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP made arrangements and coordinate with ‘Center for Handicaps’ organization to donate 19 prosthetic limbs (each artificial lower limb below knee cost Rs: 45000.00, complete lower limb cost Rs: 75000.00 and a upper limb cost Rs: 35000.00) with a total cost of Rs: 1,000,000.00 for 16 differently able people in the area. Representatives of ‘Center for Handicaps’ completed their Preliminary works such as taking the measurements and fitting on by 08 June 2018.

As a continuation of the donation, 52 students selected from V/Pudukkulam Maha Vidyalaya, V/Tharanikkulam Ganesh Vidyalaya, V/Thavasiyakulam Government Tamil Mix School, M/Thachchanamaradamadhu Maha Vidyalaya, M/Periyamadhu Maha Vidyalaya and M/Periyapandivirichchan Maha Vidyalaya were provided with exercise books and essential school items worth approximately five hundred thousand rupees by ‘Asia Foundation’ on a request made by General Officer Commanding of 61 Division. This philanthropic effort was made to benefit students who are seeking the new scope of education in order to be a part of knowledge based society and sustainable development.

The Chief Priest of the Lady of Sacred Madu, Rev Fr Peppai Sosoi and Rev Fr Neil Wasanthan together with the Kurukkal of Murugan Kovil Thachchanamarathamadu Panneer Selva Sharma participated in the event as chief reverends in the area.

The General Officer Commanding of 54 Division Brigadier W G H A S Bandara RWP RSP grace the occasion as the chief guest while General Officer Commanding 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP made his presence as a guest of honour.

Government Officials including Divisional Secretary Madu Mr. B. Jeyaharan,Commander 611 Brigade L D S S Liyanage RSP USP psc Hdmc, Commander (Overlooking) 613 Brigade Colonel K L S S Liyanagama RWP RSP and other senior officers along with large number of villagers in the area were present at the occasion.
