ARMY STAND IN FRONT LINE SUPPORTING TO ENSURES HEALTHCARE STABILITY AMIDST STAFF STRIKE

In response to the request of Ministry of Defence, under the directions of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army and Commander, Security Forces (Wanni), troops under command to 21 Infantry Division and 64 Infantry Division deployed troops at the government hospitals affected by the island-wide strike of minor staff trade unions in the health sector to ensure the smooth run of the essential health services in the country on 01 and 02 February 2024. The troops of the 21 Infantry Division, 212 Infantry Brigade, 213 Infantry Brigade, 3rd Armoured Regiment and 2nd (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops under the unit made their contribution. In addition to that 64 Infantry Division, 641 Infantry Brigade and 8th Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery also provided troops.

The 02 x 93 troops deployed at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, Government Hospital in Madawachchiya, Government Hospital in Kekirawa, Government Hospital in Padaviya and Government Hospital in Kahatagasdigiliya under the supervision of General Officer Commanding, 21 Infantry Division. Further, troops deployed at Government Hospital in Oddusudan under the supervision of General Officer Commanding, 64 Infantry Division. Accordingly troops deployed in these hospital and Commander Security Forces (Wanni) instructed the respective General Officer commanders to stand by for additional troops for further deployment in case of an emergency while ensuring the smooth function of the health services free from inconveniences to the public.
