ARMY TROOPS ASSIST CLEAN-UP AT MIHINTALE SACRED SITE

As part of the national ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme, Sri Lanka Army troops joined a clean-up effort at the sacred Mihintale Rajamaha Viharaya on 29 May 2026.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of the 21 Infantry Division and supervised by the 212 Infantry Brigade. 02x10 troops from the 4th Battalion, Sri Lanka National Guard worked alongside local residents to help clean the temple premises.

During the programme, participants removed the decayed root remains of a sacred Bo tree that had previously been cut down and left in the Weli Maluwa area of the Mihintale sacred premises. This helped improve the cleanliness and appearance of the sacred site for devotees and visitors.

The programme also demonstrated the Sri Lanka Army’s commitment to environmental conservation and the protection of religious places. The initiative was highly appreciated by everyone who attended the event.
