Brigadier Chaminda Wijayarathne assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division during a brief ceremony at the 54 Infantry Division Headquarters premises Mannar, on Friday, 17th January 2025.
In accordance with military traditions, Brigadier Chaminda Wijayarathne upon arrival at the premises reviewed the Guard Turnout presented by 4th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. As the first segment of the day’s proceedings, the incoming General Officer Commanding paid tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the monument in Division Headquarter.
Brigadier Chaminda Wijayarathne arrived at his new office and pen his signature in official document to signify the acceptance of his new responsibilities as General Officer Commanding, amidst the religious blessings. (Buddhist, Catholic, Islam, Hindu)
The General Officer Commanding posed for a group photograph with the Senior Officers and Officers serving under the Division Headquarters and adding to the memories of the day he planted a Mango sapling in front of the 54 Infantry Division Office Complex
In setting out his scope of work and duties, the General Officer Commanding formally addressed Officers and Other Ranks and urged them to work with commitment and maintain high standards of discipline before sharing a cup of tea with all ranks.
Brigadier Chaminda Wijayarathne participated in a comprehensive briefing conducted by the Col GS, GSO 1 (Ops) and SIO of the 54 Infantry Division. Finally he joined with officers in a lunch at the Officers Mess.
The commanders of the 541, 542 and 543 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the day’s inauguration of the office.
Brigadier Chaminda Wijayarathne served as the Brigadier Coordinating, Tri Services Land Coordinating (North and East) prior to this appointment.
