The Commander Security Forces (Wanni), Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, undertook a comprehensive field visit on 24 June 2025 to inspect ongoing preparations for the forthcoming 74th Upasampadā Ceremony of the Sri Lanka Rāmañña Maha Nikāya.
This year’s prestigious religious event is scheduled to take place from 30 June to 06 July 2025, centred at the Viddhayādara Temple in Galnewa, situated in Kala Karambawewa Village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni). The opening ceremony is expected to be held at the Galnewa Mahaweli Grounds, with the participation of His Excellency, the President, senior Chief Incumbents, and other distinguished dignitaries.
In support of this sacred occasion, the Sri Lanka Army has embarked on an extensive series of civil-military cooperation tasks. These include the renovation and development of key religious sites such as Valukarama Temple, Wijithapura Sri Punyawardanārāmaya Temple, and Viddhayādara Pirivena, alongside the erection of parabolic huts and facilitation of various logistical requirements essential to the smooth conduct of the ceremony.
Additional contributions by the Army include the provision of kitchen equipment, essential living amenities (mattresses, beds, bed sheets, mosquito nets), and the supply of meals and refreshments for the participating monks and devotees.
During the inspection, Major General Pradeep Kulatunga, Commander Security Forces (Wanni), personally reviewed the progress of all construction and infrastructure development works at key locations, including the Galnewa Mahaweli Grounds. He interacted directly with the troops on the ground, issuing clear directives to ensure the timely and efficient completion of all assigned duties.
Accompanying the Commander Security Forces (Wanni), during the field visit were Major General M W A R C Wijesuriya RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding 21 Infantry Division, along with several other senior officers from respective formations.
