HEMAS OPENS 50TH PIYAWARA PRE-SCHOOL IN ANURADHAPURA

Hemas Outreach Foundation added the 50th Piyawara pre-school to the national network in Siyambalawa, Anuradhapura and continues to support the national agenda in developing Early Childhood Care and Development in Sri Lanka.

Initiated in 2002, the Piyawara programme aims to enrich the lives of underprivileged children in Sri Lanka by focusing on key aspect within the framework of Early Childhood Care and Development.

The 50th pre-school was constructed by 21 Division under the directions of General Officer Commanding of 21 Division Brigadier Kumar Jayapathirana RSP and with the careful supervision of Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu. Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) is assisting the efforts of Hemas and Ministry of Women and Child Affairs to build pre-schools in the war affected areas in Wanni region.

Representing the Opening Ceremony of the pre-school, the General Manager of Communication and Sustainable Development in Hemas Holdings/Executive Director of Hemas Outreach Foundation Mrs. Shiromi Masakorala added that ‘Piyawara’ is focusing on a holistic approach to Early Childhood Care and Development.

At present 50 Piyawara pre-schools are in operational across the country in which 150 teachers and over 3500 children attending them daily.

During next few years, Piyawara hopes to reach out to other underserved communities and add more pre-schools to the national network.
